Red lipstick and a mirror

I am girl.  So along with indecisiveness, I have been cursed blessed with the C-Chromosome.  C as in Crazy.  We (as in women) can be a little emotional and somewhat irrational at times.    One minute we could be laughing uncontrollably at a Shake Weight infomercial  and the next minute we could be crying hysterically over the adoption ad for starving alley kittens.  

As members of the female species, we often carry a heavy weight on our shoulders as we nurture the world around us.  We are natural care takers, givers and pleasers.   We have to balance the demands of a career and home life.  We have a big heart and sometimes overuse it.  There comes a point where we should to put ourselves in a time-out in order to  reset, regroup, rewind and refocus.  Its important to make time for YOU.

For my New Year's resolution, I am focusing on a healthier me: mind, body and soul.  The year has just begin and a new chapter awaits...how exciting!  

I plan on replacing the inventory in my refrigerator with better options.  I saw my old friend, the gym, today.  My belly and budget are not ready to dive into the completely green, organic way of life but I am making small strides.

When I need a little extra boost in my step, I flip through the pages of this book, Succulent Wild Woman by Sark.  This colorful masterpiece is entirely handwritten and has such a creative touch, you cannot help but smile when you read it.  

So ladies, put on your red lipstick and kiss the mirror because you are beautiful!  Make this year about YOU!

Last Christmas Crafternoon

Christmas is almost here and I am so ridiculously giddy. 

In efforts to savor the last few crafternoons before Christmas, I created a page for Juice's scrapbook.   I wanted to capture favorite Christmas movies that each of us enjoy watching during the holiday.  Juice's favorite movie is Elf so I used this as the theme.

I sketched templates for cut-outs

Using the templates, cut out the pieces on construction/scrapbook paper

Result:  A themed page of our favorite Christmas movies :)

Christmas card photo sesh

On Thanksgiving morning, Juice, The Boo and I decided to dress up, pack up our gitters (guitars) and head down the street for a Christmas card photo sesh.   Several things happened during this occasion:

1.  Many spectators witnessed our smooth moves

2. Envious people admired The Boo's x-small Swiss 3inch-thick sweater.  

3.  Several onlookers were patiently waiting for us to break into a full on concert

4.  The Juice's tutu was a hot commodity

 

A memory from 2011

For Christmas, I bought my grandmother a digital photo frame.  I wanted to pre-load pictures of our adventures from 2011.  As I looked through the photos of 2011, I realized that this year has been truly amazing and heart felt.  Juice is maturing into a little lady.  The Boo has added so much joy and laughter to my life.  One particular memory sticks out that I would like to share.

Earlier this year, one of my favorite people on Earth came to visit.  Kim (who is awesome) and I have known each other since our diaper days.  During her visit, we went to my favorite beach....and this little adventure resulted:

Kim snapped photos of this moment.  We were completely unaware she was taking our picture.  Most likely during this time we were whispering sweet nothings and discussing how we are going to save the world with our superpowers.

Once we realized she was taking our pic, we happily posed (check out the crashing wave behind us)

I walked away to leave The Boo in his own thoughts.  At that moment, a very, unexpected wave crashed down on him.  Everything on him was completed soaked.  Kim, Juice and I are completely dying of laughter and instead of running to his rescue, we snapped approximately 127 pictures on her 25.4 mega pixel camera

Once my laughter attack subsided and I was able to breathe at a normal rate,  I greeted him with hugs and kiss and tried to warm him up.  And thanked him for providing unforgettable entertainment.

Decking the Halls - Part Two

Since I am female, I've been blessed with the indecisive gene. I wanted something larger for the mantel. This simple craft is so easy my cat(s) could do it. Or any other creature that lacks opposable thumbs.

I've had this framed picture in garage that has been screaming for some attention. The picture no longer goes the my home decor so I painted it solid black to prep for an epiphany.

 I used left over paper from my Ho Ho Ho frames

Using a straight edge, sketch out a tall triangle

Use the original triangle as a guide for the rest

I LOVE this handy glide glue....Best invention EVER

I like the plain, uneven look so just throw the triangles anywhere.  Best part is that after the holidays are over, the picture board can be used for more creative fun.

 Super simple!

Decking the Halls - Part One

I am super excited to be featured on Love, Lindsey blog as she is co-hosting a week of  Creating Christmas with The Girl Creative

I love Christmas and especially creating crafts for the house.   So pump up the Christmas jams and sip on some Eggnog (spiked, obvi) and let your creative juices flow.

Inspired by Pinterest, I wanted to create a festive piece for my mantel

I started with a nice little trip to the thrift store and purchase three (3) 5x7 picture frames for $2.55.  I bought a small bottle of red spray paint and used some fun Christmas paper I found at Michaels.

I spray painted all three frames.  If you want each frame to be the same shade of red (or whichever color you choose, I recommend using a primer). 

Next, I searched for fun fonts to use.  There are several free fonts online  but I used the general fonts in Microsoft Office.  I printed directly on the scrapbook paper.  I traced the letters with a black sharpie to enhance the color.

The glass from the picture frame is a useful guide.

This is a handy tool for swift cutting but regular scissors work just fine.

After all pieces are cut, place in frame.  I choose not to use the picture frame glass.  Voila!
